In 1734,the directors of the VOC commissioned the amsterdam artist Cornelius Pronk ( 1691 - 1759 ) to make set of drawings for the decoration of chinese porcelain. He made 4 different designs, the first being this chinoiserie, genrally called " The Parasol lady ". The drawings were sent to Canton in 1736. The first group of such decorated porcelain was sent back to Holland on the " Magdalena" in 1737,and incuded blue/white, chinese imari ( like the present set ) , and famille rose. The " parasol" design became instantly very popular, but the high cost of production proved to be prohibitive, and further orders were not placed anymore.
